Government Work Team Convenes and Takes Key Decisions

Deputy Premier Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa chaired here today a meeting of the Government Committee in charge of scrutinizing the recommendations that featured in the final report of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI).

Deputy Premier Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa chaired here today a meeting of the Government Committee in charge of scrutinizing the recommendations that featured in the final report of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI).

During the meeting, the panel reviewed the necessary implementation procedures, which it will include in the report it will submit to Cabinet during its next regular weekly meeting.

At the beginning of the meeting, the government work team lauded His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa's order to establish the National Commission in Charge of Implementing BICI recommendations.

In this regard, Shaikh Mohammed reiterated the government's strong resolve to implement all BICI recommendations, in cooperation with the independent National Commission, set up by HM King Hamad.

Then, the government panel decided to launch an immediate comprehensive and intensive programme at the Interior Ministry to train public security personnel on ways of enforcing the law according to the best international practices, taking advantage of the advanced countries' expertise in this regard.

The Interior Minister Lt. General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa was requested to announce the details and goals of the programme.
Also, the panel asked the concerned sides to prepare the bylaw of the National Victims' Compensation Fund, set up according Royal Decree 30 for the year 2011, form its board and determine the conditions and rules of compensation process as soon as possible and present them during the next meeting, set to be held next Wednesday.

The government Committee also adopted an implementation mechanism that will enable it to follow up the steps taken by ministries and government departments to apply BICI recommendations.

The panel also decided to publish all the procedures taken to implement the BICI proposals on a special website, in line with the government's keen interest to update the public on what has happened in this regard.
