Major Companies which are partly owned by the Government have reinstated 1520 sacked employees – or are in the process of doing so. Labour Minister Jameel Humaidan reaffirmed the Government's commitment to ensure their effective reinstatement by April1.
The ministry signed a key agreement in this regard yesterday (March11) with the General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions and Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Energy. Mr. Humaidan sealed the deal with GFBTU secretary-general Salman Jaffar Mahfoudh and BCCI board member Othman Mohammed Sharif Al-Rayyes. The agreement has won the backing of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) representatives led by Standards Department director Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry. The three parties acknowledge the progress achieved in reinstating sacked employees and agreed to address the remaining cases. The tripartite committee was set up last December following complaints lodged by labour delegations last June on the sidelines of the International Labour Conference.
